Net Neutrality is something you might be hearing everywhere these days. If you are one of those people who think it doesn’t concern you, or consider it even as as an advantage because you will get Facebook and Whatsapp for free – let me tell you something:
If there’s freedom for anything in this world – it’s the internet. It is the only mass media where everyone get a say (unlike visual and printed media). And where everyone get the opportunity to learn and earn. Tomorrow is of the internet. Don’t let anyone take that from us.
Mark Zuckerberg is already fooling people of developing countries like India (because Americans made it very clear in the last few years that it won’t work with them) in the name of connecting everybody (Internet.org). Now Airtel introduces a plan which makes it free for you to access Flipkart and such selected sites by taking a sum from them and providing free access (leaving you the option of only using those sites).
Do you really want telecom companies to decide which websites you should visit? Do you want to buy a package for Facebook and then another package for Wikipedia? Do you want to see all those IT companies and Internet startups shut down because they don’t have deep pockets to pay the telecom companies? “Do you really want to get manipulated by the corporates?”
If not, take action now. This website has made it easy for you to tell TRAI that you need net neutrality: www.savetheinternet.in .
If you are still confused about net neutrality, watch this funny video by AIB on Net Neutrality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfY1NKrzqi0
